Instructions

Prerequisites
Identify the folders that you want to create and any formulas you can use to easily build them – see the example file above for an example of the formulas used to build the folders to create.

Instructions
Run the Create Subfolders macro.  The Create_Subfolders sheet is created in the active workbook.  Populate the required columns in this sheet, and then run the Create Subfolders macro again to create all the folders specified in the sheet.  These are the columns within the Create_Subfolders sheet you’ll want to fill in:

  • Column A – Parent Folder Path  (required): enter the entire folder path that should contain the new folder.  This does not have to be the same for every row.  If creating folders and then folders within those folders, make sure to set them up in order from top-down or in a parent-child manner.
  • Column B – Subfolder Name (required): enter the name of the new folder.

Note that often the folder paths and subfolder names are the result of formulas, such as for weekly folders – (formula “=B2+7”).  See the example file above.  You can likely reuse a template file in this way in future periods by just specifying a couple of inputs and letting formulas build out the new folder structure!
