Instructions

Prerequisites
[Optional – easier way] Hide the columns you want to be able to quickly toggle between hidden and visible in one or more sheets.  Alternatively, identify those columns that you can list out.

Instructions
Run the Toggle Unused Fields macro.  It will prompt you whether or not to capture any hidden columns within your workbook.  Click the Yes button to capture them, or No to list them yourself.

When you click either Yes or No at the prompt, the Toggle_Unused_Fields sheet will be created in your active workbook.  These are the columns within the Toggle_Unused_Fields sheet you’ll want to fill in:

  • Column A – Sheet name (required): enter the worksheet name containing the columns to toggle hiding.
  • Column B – Column range (required): enter the column-only ranges to toggle hiding (i.e. $A:$A).

If you frequently download the same file where you’d like to be able to toggle the same columns quickly, you can save the settings you use in a saved template.  Simply enter “DEFAULT” and a number from 1 to 5 in cell L1 on the Toggle_Unused_Fields sheet.  Any saved fields will be presented to you when you first run the Toggle Unused Fields macro.
