Overview
The blog post is a little different this week…I’m going to cover several new features in the XLEV8 Excel add-in. It’s probably the biggest version update yet! Efficiency is at the heart of what I do, and these features will help you work more efficiently in Excel. There are features for users of all kinds that will help you find data/errors faster, navigate faster, analyze faster, and more.
New Features
Search Cells
Shows an auto-complete search form to look for cell values across columns or across rows and jump to the first matching value OR use conditional formatting to highlight all matching values.
Insert Counter Formula
Inserts a counter formula that automatically updates based on rows you add or delete. It inserts the SEQUENCE dynamic array function in the active cell with a COUNTA function reference to column to the right.
Bulk Edit Custom Lists
Uses a settings sheet (Bulk_Edit_Custom_Lists) to add, edit, and delete custom lists in one bulk step.
Search Custom Lists
Shows an auto-complete search form to look for custom lists within your library that can be quickly inserted in the active cell and below.
Toggle Formulas Values
Uses a reusable settings sheet to specify sheets/columns to toggle formulas and values to speed up files with lots of formulas that constantly recalculate. The specified columns will keep formulas in the top data row when converting formulas to values such that the values can be converted back to formulas.
Toggle Cell Tracker
Uses conditional formatting to highlight the active cell, row, and column so you can more easily follow what selected. Click once to toggle on and again to toggle off.
List Cell Errors
Builds a list of all cell errors in the active workbook and lists them on a new sheet (List_Cell_Errors), which contains the sheet and range containing the error, the error type, and a link to the cell with the error.
Auto Nav Shortcuts
It automatically creates previous/next shortcuts for all direct subfolders within a user-provided path.
Bulk Goal Seek
Uses a settings sheet (Bulk_Goal_Seek) to run multiple goal seek calculations in succession, in one bulk step.
Setup Project Files
Uses three settings sheets to automatically create hard/cloud drive folders, and optionally create Outlook email folders, copy and rename template files, and update placeholder content in template files.
Toggle Lookup
Toggles the active cell formula between three lookup functions in this order: VLOOKUP >> XLOOKUP >> INDEX/MATCH. It looks for the first instance of one of those functions within the active cell formula, extracts the parameters, and converts it to the next one in the cycle.
Filter All Sheets
Allows you to apply filter settings (turn on/off, apply filter(s), clear filter(s)) across multiple sheets containing the same AutoFilter range (generally because they are structured identically with the same columns/fields), which is not natively available in Excel.
Summarize Sheets
Automatically adds two useful summary sheets for analyzing data points from multiple identically-structured sheets – a row-by-row view and a side-by-side view.
